On our website, we have already written several times about the dangers that await you on the Internet. This time we will describe it on the example of a “live” case. The Polish BitBay exchange has just warned that you can find a platform on the web that pretends to be a cryptocurrency exchange and is trying to take over your login details. It is so dangerous that this scam “pretends” to be BitBay!
BitBay warns of … its evil twin brother
On the Facebook profile of the exchange you can find the following message:
We want to warn you about the bitbay – net. com. It is a copy of our website, the purpose of which is to take over logins and passwords of our customers.
- If you suspect that you have accidentally logged in to this site, we recommend that you change your BitBay account password and e-mail box as soon as possible.
- Remember to always log in to the website before logging into your account https://auth.bitbay.net/login.
Watch out for this site and similar ones that impersonate us. Report such cases to us. “
So we are dealing with an almost classic scam. Someone bought a domain with the word “bitbay”, built a website that resembles a cryptocurrency exchange and now only … is waiting for inattentive victims! Like a clever hunter who has prepared snares and waits for people who unknowingly fall into them
How not to get scammed?
Of course, scammers may have their own bad intentions, but we don’t have to give in to them, right? Despite appearances, avoiding such traps is not as difficult as it may seem!
First of all, it is best not to enter this type of website where we provide sensitive data (just in case the scamers manage to position their website well), but immediately enter their address in the browser.
When we enter a given page, let’s check security issues. Most browsers already have a built-in option that tells us whether the connection to the site is safe at all. It is also worth – if we have any suspicions – to go a little deeper and check the website certificate. How to do it was described, for example, by the home.pl portal. You can find an article on this topic here.
Of course, it is worth having an anti-virus program on your equipment, which provides some protection against this type of fraud.
