Businessman and podcaster Eric Savics was the victim of phishing last week
Last week, Eric Savics, entrepreneur and host of the “Protocol Podcast”, told his Twitter that he had lost 12 Bitcoins (worth $ 130,000) in a phishing attack. The crypto community has joined him and presented him with an entire Bitcoin worth $ 9,500. But he now plans to return donations.
4 / Reflecting over the weekend on the donations I have decided to return all the BTC that was so kindly sent to me.
In the last couple of days many people in much worst situations have shared their stories of loss from theft with me.

“Reflecting on donations over the weekend, I decided to return all the BTC that was so kindly sent to me,” he tweeted, adding: “It doesn’t seem right that I’m accumulating these donations while other people have been through so much worse.” I may not be able to build my position again, but I still have my job, health, friends and family. ”
How did Savics lose its Bitcoins?
Savics initially lost 12 Bitcoins by downloading a malicious version of the KeepKey app from the Google Chrome store. After entering his recovery phrase (used to generate a Bitcoin private key, which acts as a password for the funds), his Bitcoins were quickly stolen.
He went on Twitter, explaining: “I had all my Bitcoins stolen from me in a hardware wallet phishing attempt. Has anyone successfully recovered stolen Bitcoins? Any help or guidance would be appreciated. ” While some suggested that he try a blockchain forensic company, others were more direct and said the money was gone forever.
Savics followed up with a video explaining the situation, saying he was close to buying an apartment and asking scammers to send some of the money. He also posted his Bitcoin address for donations.
“I send a little BTC to help because you look like a really good guy,” replied one user. Before long, an entire Bitcoin was sent to the address provided, before Savics decided to return donations.
Sent a little BTC your way to help because you seem like a genuinely good dude 🙏🏽

Savics said that what attracted him to Bitcoin was being part of a revolution towards a more open financial system – and that he could still push for it without any Bitcoin. “Whether I have 0 BTC or 100 BTC, it doesn’t matter, I will always be an advocate for a fairer, more equitable and open financial system,” he said.
