Kate Winslet will play in the movie about OneCoin –

If the courtroom drama on OneCoin is not enough for you, you will soon see the whole thing played out from the backyard and on the big screen. Kate Winslet will play one of the main roles.

Kate Winslet in the OneCoin movie

As reported Deadline, Kate Winslet will star in “Fake!”, The plot of which is based on the unpublished book by Jen McAdam and Douglas Thompson about OneCoin. McAdam, who is not only a co-author of the publication, but also a victim of the financial pyramid, will also work on the project as a producer.

Scott Z. Burns, who previously directed The Report, a political thriller based on the CIA report on the torture of Islamic prisoners after September 11, 2001, will be responsible for the script and directing.

Pyramid

OneCoin was founded in 2014 by Rujea Ignatov in Bulgaria. As we know today, it was almost a classic financial pyramid, but with its own digital currency that imitated the cryptocurrency. The creators promised a lot: OneCoin was to be the next Bitcoin. Oddly enough, the company’s e-coin wasn’t even blockchain based. Despite the warnings of many organizations from the BTC market (including the Polish Bitcoin Association), the project turned out to be a great success for the creators who deceived a huge number of people around the world (the exact numbers are unknown, but it was calculated that investors lost about USD 5 billion) ).

McAdam, who previously founded the OneCoin victim support group, said Cointelegraph, that she and her friends and family have invested over € 250,000 ($ 298,800) in the project. She did this before she found out that it was all a scam and had little to do with Bitcoin in practice.

Ignatova herself was charged with banking and securities fraud and money laundering. Unfortunately, no one has stopped it to this day. She has also not been seen since 2017. Her brother Konstantin Ignatov, executive director at OneCoin, was charged with the same and arrested. He agreed to testify against his sister.

“Fake!” is not the first production inspired by the history of OneCoin. A TV program on the subject is also in preparation.
