Pompliano says in an interview with TechCrunch’s CEO, “If Ripple succeeds, it doesn’t mean that XRP will be successful, too.”
Morgan Creek Digital co-founder Anthony Pompliano better known as Pomp said that if Ripple, the San Francisco-based blockchain payments company associated with XRP, is successful in the long term, it does not mean that XRP too it will be.
Pomp said this during an interview with TechCrunch CEO and founder of Arrington XRP Capital, Michael Arrington. Arrington detailed how he got into the crypto universe. He also spoke highly of Ripple’s XRP and how he has partnered with the company’s CEO, Brad Garlinghouse, in the past.
Arrington creates crypto fund with the help of Brad Garlinghouse
In the last edition of Pomp Podcast, the well-known bitcoin enthusiast talked to Arrington about issues ranging from U.S. policy, regulation of the crypto universe, Bitcoin, Ripple and XRP.
Arrington noted that he dismissed bitcoin the first time he heard about it. He later bought a few bitcoins at Coinbase, which he later discovered that his value had appreciated significantly. He, however, only took bitcoin seriously in 2017, after being motivated by his current bride who was involved with a cryptocurrency-related startup.
The founder of TechCrunch then invested in several OICs later and entered the crypto universe full time. He later had discussions with Brad Garlinghouse of Ripple, who helped him create a cryptocurrency hedge fund. However, for tax reasons, Ripple was unable to invest directly in the fund. Still, Garlinghouse helped him get the Arrington XRP Capital off the ground.
Crypto is the future
Arrington also spoke about the current regulatory climate in the United States. In relation to this matter, the fund manager argues that the United States has grown the Internet and thus created billion-dollar companies like Amazon and Google.
He argues that, instead of ignoring crypto or placing obstacles, the US should let crypto grow like the Internet. The United States is currently stifling innovation in the crypto universe due to the threat it poses to the US dollar.
Arrington postulated that the United States needs to formulate clear regulations to avoid being left behind by other countries like China and Singapore. He added:
“I’m an American, I want our country to succeed and I believe that crypto is the future. I believe that Bitcoin is money and money is bitcoin. ”
The success of XRP is not tied to the success of Ripple
Arrington admitted that he is “in love with XRP” as it serves a very important purpose. Pomp, not so much. He explained that Ripple, the company that plans to create better software for banks, is incredible. In fact, he is jealous that he has not invested in Ripple in the past.
However, he finds the relationship between Ripple and XRP strange. He understands why Ripple uses XRP as part of the overall product and also sees the resulting benefits in the Ripple ecosystem. What he doesn’t understand is why investors buy the digital asset with higher price expectations in the future.
According to Pomp, “if Ripple is successful, it does not mean that XRP will be successful too.”
