Pregnant dancer shot dead for ‘rejecting’ to perform with groom’s brother

0

Despite a ban on arms in marriage palaces, a 24-year-old orchestra dancer was shot dead by an allegedly drunk man at Ashirwad marriage palace, Maur Mandi, in the district late on Saturday. In a video of the incident, a man who is dancing with a .12 bore rifle tries to fire a shot in the air when a bullet pierces through the head of the dancer.

Meanwhile, police said it has registered a case against four persons, including two friends of the accused and the owner of the banquet hall. “Accused is on the run, we are trying to trace him, have registered a case under IPC Section 302,” a police official said.

In the video, three dancers were on the stage for the first two minutes and the victim—Kulwinder Kaur—too joined her colleagues just a minute before she collapsed due to the gun shot. The video, which also reveals the face of the person who fired the gun shot, also shows children dancing beside a man who continuously fires shots with a revolver.
After two and a half minutes in the video, a .12 bore rifle is seen loosely held by a man who fires a shot which hit the dancer. Various orchestra groups in Bathinda held a protest and blocked the road outside the Bathinda Civil Hospital on Sunday. — With ANI inputs
